Virginia Jones Strickland
High Point
Virginia Jones Strickland, 85, of High Point, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Adams Farm Living & Rehabilitation.
Born November 20, 1931, in Stokes County, she was the daughter of the late Austin Jones and the late Bertha East Jones. With a sense of wonder and excitement, she engaged the world around her on her own terms. She prettied the world with her paintings, her flowerbeds, her crafts, and her sense of humor. From ambitious crocheting projects to radishes cut into the shapes of roses on her potato salad, she was a delight to everyone who met her. She would ask questions and challenge ideas in order to learn how she could love you in a better way. She was the hero of her family, a constant source of love, compassion, and stability.
She worked most of her life in hosiery mills and never went to work without being impeccably dressed. She was fondly known to her co-workers as Miss America. Weekends found her working on her flowers with grass-stained bare feet. Everything and everyone she touched was left more beautiful than it had been before.
Ms. Strickland is survived by her son, Timothy Strickland of High Point; daughters, Sheila Allred and husband James of Archdale, and Julie Potts of Trinity; sister, Shelby Pyrtle of Archdale; and three grandchildren, Aaron Potts of the US Navy, Russ Allred of Archdale, and Chris Allred of Archdale.
