Patsy Runyon Obituary

Patsy “Pat” June Runyon, 74, of Sophia, NC passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Hospice of the Piedmont, in High Point, NC. She was surrounded by the love of her family.

Pasty, a true coal miner’s daughter was born in Phelps, KY on October 14, 1946, to the late Tolbert and Jane Coleman Stump.

Pasty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Charles R. Runyon and her firstborn son, Charles R. Runyon, Jr.   She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Arnold Stump, Western “Arvil” Stump, and Lawrence Stump, four sisters: Geraldine Smith, Anna Jean Casey, Pauline Pugh, and Irene Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Therrien, son-in-law, Andy Therrien, son, Tracy Runyon, daughter-in-law, Sandy Runyon, and her cherished grandchildren, Gavin Runyon, Grace Runyon, Jarod Woosley, and Taylor O’Fiel. She is also survived by two siblings, Alvin Stump of FL, Josephine Shemchek, of PA, a bonus daughter, Jackie Biggs, who she considered one of her own, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

After her marriage to Charles, they relocated to High Point, NC to start their family. During this time, Pat worked in the hosiery and dairy industries.  After retirement, they chose to spend their golden years in Thomasville, NC.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and considered her children her greatest accomplishment. She loved a good movie and never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune.  She also enjoyed the beauty of nature.  The changing of the seasons to fall was her favorite time of the year.  She loved flowers and bird watching.  Watching the hummingbirds were her favorite.  Pat also had the gift of gab.  She never met a stranger and loved to strike up a conversation with anyone that would listen.  She was truly one of a kind and her presence will be deeply missed by many.

To honor her memory a celebration of life will be hosted at a later date.

Pat loved watching the hummingbirds every year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you hang a hummingbird feeder at your home in her memory.
