Mabel Wagner Welborn died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday April 11, 2021. She was born in Virginia and was educated in the High Point School system. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dillard Wagner. The eldest of four children, Mabel was extremely close to her family throughout her lifetime. She was predeceased by her parents, by her husband, Garland Ray Welborn, her brother, Brownie Darrell Wagner, and her nephew Matthew Ray Reid.
Mabel began her career at North State Telephone where she progressed to office manager for US Furniture. She retired from USF after forty years. She began her third career as a seasonal showroom designer for Universal Furniture which lasted for 22 years.
When Mabel wasn’t working, she spent her leisure time at her home in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She had a very happy and outgoing personality. Not one to meet a stranger, Mabel made many lasting friendships. She was cherished by her family and by all who knew her well.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Smith Milliken and son in-law, William S. Milliken of High Point, her grandchildren, W. Stewart Milliken of Thomasville and her granddaughter, Barrett Binford Milliken of Raleigh. Also surviving are her siblings, Dick Carlton Wagner and wife Jean of Oklahoma and her sister, Rebekah Wagner Myers and husband Dale of Thomasville. Mabel was also a beloved Aunt and Great Aunt.
A private internment will be held at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church for immediate family. Also her dear friends will celebrate her life at North Myrtle Beach during the Memorial Day holiday.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that all donations be given to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
