Larry Childress

Robert Larry Childress, 81, of High Point, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Kernersville Medical Center.

Born October 12, 1942, in Forsyth County, he was a son of the late Robert Morrison Childress and the late Lottie Mae Hepler Childress. Larry started in retail as a teenager and was manager of Hines Shoes until he retired. Larry was a former member of the Winston-Salem Jaycees. Larry never met a stranger and loved all his customers. He had special coffee buddies at Country Bar B Que and Biscuitville in High Point. Larry loved to go to flea markets and yard sales. He will be missed by all who knew him, and his favorite saying was “hang in there”.

Larry is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Elaine Anderson Childress of the home; daughter, Jennifer Henderson and husband John; son, Jason Childress and wife Candice; sisters, Linda Fearrington and husband Dale, and Kathy Transou and husband Joe; sister-in-law, Judy Childress; his pride and joy, grandsons, Connor Childress, Alex Henderson, and Nathan Henderson; and special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve Childress, and Jerry Childress.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 27, 2024, in the High Point Chapel of Wright Funerals-Cremations with Rev. Mike Lee officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.
