John Stephen Grose

John Stephen Grose, 80, of Kernersville, N.C., suddenly passed away October 23, 2023, at home where he went on to his final resting place and to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was born on September 19, 1943, in Franklinville, N. C. to the late Russell Robert Grose and Dorothy Williamson Grose. He married his childhood sweetheart Brenda Coward in 1960 and had two sons, William Robert Grose and Brian Stephen Grose, both of whom he is very proud. He graduated from Franklinville High School in 1961 and later in 1964 from Randolph Community College and ICS where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began working as a Draftsman for Singer Fidelity in 1965 and later had a successful career working as an Engineer at Gilbarco Inc. starting in 1966 and eventually retiring in 2000 with over 35 years of service as an Executive over the Engineering department. During his time at Gilbarco, he was awarded with a U.S. Patent for inventing a new “Dispenser Leak Detection” system that was implemented into Gilbarco’s gas pump manufacturing technology.

Stephen was a member of Union Cross Baptist Church of Kernersville, serving many titles, including Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. In his early life, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and flying airplanes when he later received his private pilot license and became a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was known lovingly as “Pepaw” to his grandchildren and “EI” to his great-granddaughter. Those that were close to him, knew that he cherished his family dearly and placed them as well as his faith above all else.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Coward Grose, his two sons, William Robert Grose, Brian Stephen Grose and his wife Gloria, two grandchildren, Megan Christina Grose and Russell Taylor Grose, and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Elyzabeth Evans (EI’s sweetheart) and Lane Michael Smith (EI’s buddy).

Memorial services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday at 2 PM on November 11, 2023, at Union Cross Baptist Church in Kernersville, N. C. where all are welcome to pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Union Cross Baptist Church.
