James “Jim” Austin Wright, Jr., 76, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at High Point Regional Hospital with family by his side. He was a devoted husband, father and proud grandfather
A Randolph County native for the past 35 years, Jim was born in Moore County, NC on February 28, 1945, the son of the late James Austin Wright, Sr. and Ethel Moser Wright. Jim served faithfully and honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a door gunner for the 281st Helicopter Assault Unit. He retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb - Convatec in 2005 to spend time spoiling his grandsons, gardening, and collecting Richard Petty memorabilia. His grandchildren called him BOPPA and for the past 20 years, everyone lovingly knew him by this moniker. Always with a smile and a wicked fast sense of humor, he was an energetic force of happiness who lived at 100 mph and had a new project or hobby every few days. He was known for his vast knowledge of damn near everything and the ability to fix/build/improve anything he encountered. He was the first to lend a hand if you needed help and the first to crack a joke to make you laugh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several siblings.
Surviving are wife, Brenda Rowlett Wright of Trinity; daughter, Cassandra Wright Linthicum of Trinity and her husband William; son, James Austin Wright, III of Trinity and his wife Melissa Partin Wright; two grandsons, Spencer Alderin of Trinity and James Austin Wright, IV of Trinity; step-grandson, William Joseph Linthicum of Raleigh; two sisters, Ruby Dickens of Lexington, and Mary Ann Fleming of West Virginia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins who all held a special place in his heart.
