Frances Ritch Holland, 85, passed away peacefully in her home, Thursday, February 18, 2021, after a short battle with cancer.
Frances was born December 7, 1935, in North Wilkesboro, NC. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Curtis Ray Ritch, Sr. and Dovie Elizabeth Mabe Ritch and predeceased by her sister, Doris Fisher. Frances was a charter member of Highland Baptist Church, which her father started in 1954, and served as pastor until his passing in 1971. Frances served as the church pianist and Sunday school teacher. She loved working with children, especially teaching vacation Bible school. She had a passion for crocheting, gardening and canning. Frances loved reading and studying God’s word.
Surviving is her husband, Samuel C. Holland, of sixty-seven years, whom she loved dearly; her two daughters, Vicki Diane Rivers and her husband John Rivers, and Nancy Holland Umberger and her husband Brian Umberger; three grandchildren, Angela Taylor and her husband Jonathan, Eric Letterman and his wife Jamie, and Jonathan Umberger; three great-grandchildren, Sabrina Taylor, Katelyn and Asa Letterman, and her brother.
A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel of Wright Funerals-Cremations on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 1:45 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Cemetery.
The Holland family would like to extend their gratitude to all the Encompass Health care workers and Hospice; especially their nurse Rachel Sellers, who went above and beyond to ensure our mother was comfortable in her last days.
