David Ray Hartley

In the early hours of Saturday, April 6, 2024, David Ray Hartley, 72, of Thomasville, NC, peacefully left this earth to be with his heavenly father, with his loving wife, Patsy, of 52 years by his side.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Hartley, and his father, Cletus (Zeb) Hartley.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patsy Navy Hartley; his children, Christopher Hartley (Sharon) of Welcome and, Heather Somers (Jason) of Stanley; grandchildren, Noah Ryan Hartley (Mikayla), Isaac James Hartley, Olivia Hope Hartley, Maddie Grace Somers, Hannah Jean Somers; and sister, Connie Hartley Yarbrough (Tommy).

An abundance of David’s joy came from time spent supporting his grandchildren in all their various endeavors as he made it a priority to show up whenever he could. David also enjoyed spending the last 2 years adventuring life with his newfound best friend and dog, Willow.

After retiring from Thomas Bus in 2016, David spent much of his time reading, listening to his favorite music, watching NASCAR, and cheering on his favorite team, NC State. Throughout the years, David enjoyed the outdoors by fishing, doing yard work, or simply soaking up God’s beautiful creation, right on his back porch.

David was a devoted member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church in Thomasville. To his family and many others, David was the complete embodiment of a man of God. There was never a time when he did not put everyone else’s needs above his own. David’s unwavering faith and trust in Christ showed through the way he served and loved those around him.

David was often, times a man of few words but it was undeniable the wisdom that God gifted him with.  His commitment to sharing the gospel and spirit of serving others will live on by the example he set to his children and grand children.

A funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Carolina Memorial Baptist Church; 422 Liberty Dr., Thomasville. He will be laid to rest at Holly Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM at the church, prior to the service.

The family kindly asks, in lieu of flowers, all memorials be directed to Carolina Memorial Baptist Church; 422 Liberty Dr., Thomasville, NC; in remembrance of David’s faithful service to God and his beloved church family.
