Dale Guthrie Obituary

Dale Harlow Guthrie

High Point

Dale Harlow Guthrie, 87, of High Point, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020, at the Hospice of the Piedmont Home in High Point after a brief and valiant battle with CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia),

Born April 15, 1932, in Joliet, Illinois, he was a son of the late George Branley Guthrie and the late Anabel Blackwell Guthrie. Dale was married to Donna Marie Robison for 64 years, and missed her terribly as she proceeded him in death. Also proceeding him was Emerson Dale Guthrie, Dale's great-grandson, as well as his brother, George W. Guthrie and sister, Ruth Guthrie Helman.

Dale worked for General Motors for many years before moving south where worked as Engineering Manager for Thomas Built Busses until he retired. Dale was a long-standing member of St. Michael Lutheran Church and enjoyed a lifetime of service as a Mason, was a Past Master, and was a member in good standing at Numa F. Reid Lodge in High Point, NC. Dale was a very intelligent man who amassed many Patents, and amazed everyone with his ingenuity and ability to build, repair or create from anything ... stories are still being told of his old lawnmower to welder conversion.

One of Dale's fondest accomplishments was being able to take Donna and all eight Grandchildren to Scotland, where he instilled in them pride of their Scottish heritage as they toured the countryside, showing them firsthand Guthrie Castle and lands important to Clan Guthrie. Dale was immensely proud of his Grandchildren, Robert, Brandy & Steven Guthrie; David, Ian & Heather Hill; and Sydney & Nicholas Guthrie who rallied around him.

Dale is survived by his son, Dale Guthrie and wife Kelly of Raleigh; daughters, Diane Hill of Winston-Salem, and Dawn Guthrie Hart and husband Joseph of Greensboro; and his twin brother, Reid Guthrie of Chicago, Illinois.

Because of what's going on in the world today there will not be a funeral, but may be a memorial service at a later date. The family requests that instead of flowers, please make donations in Dale's honor to Hospice of the Piedmont. (1801 Westchester Drive, High Point NC 27262)

The entire Guthrie family would like to publicly thank the staff at the Hospice House in High Point on Westchester Drive, who have taken exceptional care of both of our parents. Especially during this trying time with quarantines and risk, they opened their doors to us and treated us with extraordinary compassion and empathy. Thank you all.
