Albert John Mates

Albert John Mates, 83, of Thomasville, passed away Friday, November 6, 2020, at Hospice Home at High Point.

Born July 17, 1937, in Rotterdam, New York, he was a son of the late Thomas John Mates and the late Alice Simkins Burgess. Al retired from CalComp Lockheed and Firestone Tire Company. He also worked for American Express and was an antique glass dealer. Al was a very proud patriot and a staunch advocate of our military and veterans. He was an active member of Heidelberg Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Carole Griesemer Mates of the home; daughter, Kristine Ann Amos and her husband CMSgt Jeffrey Amos (Retired) of Williamsburg, Virginia; grandchildren, TSgt Jason Amos and his wife Aki of California, and Laura Amos of Williamsburg, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Ren, and Hiro.
