Winston Harvey Stephens, Jr., 71, of High Point, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at his home. Born January 2, 1952, in Danville, Virginia, he was a son of the late Winston Harvey Stephens, Sr. and the late Adele Zimmerman Stephens. Winston was a retired chorus teacher and church musician at various Triad churches.
He is survived by his wife Sheryl Melzer Stephens of the home; son, Luke Stephens of Thomasville; daughters, Sarah McMurray and husband David of Jamestown, Leah Stephens and spouse Asher of Asheville, and Rebekah Stephens of Charlotte; brother, Mark Stephens and wife Susan of Texas; and grandchildren, Trent Stephens, Asa Hays, Haven McMurray, and Corinne McMurray. Winston was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who shared his passion for music with his entire family. He brought laughter wherever he went.
Winston attended Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, and received his master’s at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Winston directed the Hendricks Chapel Choir at Syracuse University in New York. He was the founding conductor of the Danville Community Orchestra in Virginia. Winston was the musical director for countless theatrical productions. He was a beloved choral teacher in Virginia and North Carolina.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 4, 2023, in the High Point Chapel of Wright Funerals-Cremations with Rev. Keith Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point is in charge of arrangements.
