Winfred Cleveland Armentrout, 94, of Piedmont Crossing went to his Lord on February 18, 2018.

Winfred was born November 16, 1923 in Thomasville to Cleveland Henry Armentrout and Ethel Welch. He graduated from Fair Grove High School in 1940. Winfred enlisted in the Navy in January 1943 and was stationed at the Naval Air Station (NAS) in Jacksonville, Florida where he obtained the rank of Coxswain while operating a "Crash Boat" for the training of Navy pilots. He was then transferred to San Diego, California and on to Ford Island, Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in March 1946.

Winfred married the love of his life Ruth Edna Pleasant daughter of David and Lena Pleasant on December 25, 1946 in High Point NC. Winfred and his wife loved to travel to other countries including Cuba, China and throughout Europe. He loved especially flounder gigging at their beach retreat at Ocean Isle. He would always launch his flounder boat, when possible, in the wee moonlight hours in hopes of gigging the elusive 15 pounders.

IN 1947, Winfred along with his brothers established Southern Veneer Company in Thomasville. Winfred was co-owner/operator and very active in the business until his retirement in 2012 at the age of 89.

Winfred is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dolan C. "Pete"

Armentrout, Carlton Raven Armentrout, and Warren Armentrout.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Piedmont Crossings, many nieces and nephews.

Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 3:00 PM there will be a Remembrance Gathering of family and friends in the "Unity Place" at Piedmont Crossing located at 100 Hedrick Drive in Thomasville NC.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 Randolph St., Thomasville, NC 27360
