On Good Friday, April 7, 2023, William Henry (Bud) Dixon Jr., 93, of Guilford County, ended his earthly presence and breathed his soul away into his Savior’s arms.
Born December 13, 1929, in Edgecombe County, he was a son of the late William Henry Dixon, Sr. and the late Pearl Bradley Wood.
Bud is survived by his sons Terry Wayne Dixon (Isabel) of Myrtle Beach, SC, William (Buddy) Dixon (Tammi) of Charleston, SC, and Tony Lee Dixon (Lizet) of Thomasville, NC, his daughters Merry Ann Dixon (Rich) of Archdale, NC, and Penny Gayle Dixon of Thomasville, NC, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife, and mother of his children, Lillian Jean Dixon, his second wife Linda Dixon, his daughter Audrey Dean Dixon, his brothers Marvin Dixon and Donnie Dixon and his sister Ida Mae Williams.
Bud spent most of his career working in the retail lumber business as a professional laborer and truck driver. He attained a third-grade education and had the distinction of being the oldest pupil in his third-grade class over a several year period. In honor of his grit and determination, his third-grade teacher handed-down the classroom toys to Bud upon her death. Do not be misled by Bud’s meager education, his experience, wisdom, and common sense were unrivaled by most men.
There are a lot of words that could be used to describe Bud; simple, hard-working, provider, and honest are just a few that come to mind. But more than any of those words, for the people who loved him the most, he was Daddy or Pawpaw. To his children, he was a hero, a shining example of what it truly means to be a Daddy. He was, quite literally, their savior. None of them would be who they are today without Bud Dixon in their lives. And for that, they will be forever grateful. Rest easy now Daddy, your work here is done.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at the Church of the Living Word, 5447 Elkes Place, Archdale, NC.
The family would like to thank the staff at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, Archdale, NC, and Hospice of Davidson County, Lexington, NC, for making Bud comfortable in his last days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bud’s honor to Hospice of Davidson County (https://www.hospiceofdavidson.org).
Wright Funerals-Cremations, Archdale is in charge of arrangements.
