William "Bill" Hoosier

Listen to Obituary

After living a good, long life, William "Bill" Hoosier of Thomasville, North Carolina, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 8, 2026.

Bill was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 18, 1937. He was the son of the late William Henry Hoosier, Sr. and Flora Hoosier Robbins. He grew up in High Point, North Carolina, but spent most of his childhood and early teenage years in Siler City, North Carolina.

Bill was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of many years, Ella Mae Beasley Hoosier, who passed away in 2007. Together they built a family that was the pride and joy of his life. He is survived by his son Randy Hoosier and wife Debbie of Thomasville; his daughter Jennifer Davidson and husband Jim of Matthews; and the cherished memories of his son Steven Hoosier and his wife Lori, who both preceded him in death in 2021.

He also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren: Halsey (Sarah), Sara, Andrew, Mikayla (Will), Evan, Bella, and Chad (Sam); five treasured great-grandchildren, Loretta, Natalie, Dante, Isaiah, and Caroline; his brother, Don Hoosier of High Point; and many extended family members and dear friends who were family in every way that mattered. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Northcott and Anne Walker.

Before retiring from a career in industrial air conditioning, Bill proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960. During those years he developed a lifelong love of airplanes, adding to an enthusiasm for cars that stayed with him throughout his life.

Anyone who knew Bill knew one thing almost immediately: he was one of the hardest-working people you could ever meet. Raised in a simpler time in Siler City, he spent his youth working the family's tobacco fields and chicken houses. It was there he learned the values that became his legacy—hard work, humility, faithfulness, and caring for the people around him. Those lessons shaped the husband, father, grandfather, and friend he became.

He never ran out of stories about those early years. One of his favorites was about trying to avoid working in the tobacco fields by rubbing poison ivy on himself. He would always finish the story with a grin: "There wasn't enough Calamine lotion in all of Chatham County to stop the itching, and Daddy still made me go out and work!"

Bill loved making people laugh, and his sense of humor rarely disappointed. Though he stood tall, he was one of the humblest men you'd ever meet. He found as much joy in an onion and tomato sandwich as he did in a steak dinner. He appreciated the simple things in life.

His career took him across many places, but retirement brought him exactly where he wanted to be—on the swing in his backyard, listening to the birds, watching God's creation, whittling on a stick, and enjoying the peace that surrounded him. If you were fortunate enough to sit beside him for a while, it didn't take long to feel that same peace yourself.

Bill was deeply loved by his family and friends. His quiet strength, steady presence, unwavering work ethic, and genuine kindness left an impression on everyone who knew him. His absence will be deeply felt, but the lessons he taught and the memories he created will continue to live on in the lives of those who loved him.

In keeping with Bill's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Instead, family and friends will gather in the coming weeks for a cookout—a simple time together to share stories, laughter, and memories. It is exactly the kind of gathering Bill would have wanted.

Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point is in charge of arrangements.
