William Habersham Barnwell, Jr., passed away on June 13, 2018, at the age of 66 in High Point, NC. He had been in declining health for several years.

Bill was born February 18, 1952, in Roanoke, VA to the late William H. Barnwell and the late Noel Gibbs Barnwell. He had three siblings, John Gibbs Barnwell (1948-1991), Noel Barnwell Mays and Jarvis Coles Barnwell. He grew up in Caracas, Venezuela while his father was president of Celanese for SA. The family moved back to the US when Bill was fifteen. Life was a big adventure full of travel, hunting, swimming, and fishing. One of his favorite places was Pawley's Island, where his family vacationed. Bill was known to be out in the surf fishing from dawn to dusk. His affinity for swimming won him a white band at Camp Seagull, the youngest to achieve that honor at that time.

Bill attended American schools in South America, Sewanee Military Academy, UNC, and NC State. He graduated from NC State with a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture in 1974. After graduation, Bill found himself yearning to move west to California. He lived in several coastal cities while working in screen printing and managing a local deli. In Santa Cruz, he met Linda Henry who later became his wife of nineteen years. With Bill's sense of adventure and love of art, they ended up in Portland, Oregon where he worked in the printing industry. He worked for two large printing companies, Data Print and LazerQuick in roles of management, winning awards for production before he moved back to the South, settling in Charleston, SC in 2002. While in Charleston he was briefly married to Anna Margaret Jordan.

He had no children, but held a special place in his heart for his four nieces; Noel Lyon Barnwell, Mary Duke Barnwell, Ramsey Mays Belanoff and Aspen Mays.

He was always so proud of his deep southern roots that carried him far in life. Bill loved to travel the world with his good friend Alexandra. He was a great story teller and enjoyed cooking and entertaining. He was the keeper of the famous Barnwell Family Pickled Shrimp recipe, the developer of homemade V8 with his friend Stanley, and a famous consumer of Dungeness crab legs and p-nut M&M's.

Rest in Peace Bill Barnwell. We love you and know you are now with Mom, Dad and Brother John. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Brookdale North AL and Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Winston Salem for their support and care.
