Richard Wayne Burton, 71, of Thomasville, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Hospice Home at High Point.

Born October 9, 1946, in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of Alfred Fuller Burton and Mary Avon Smith Burton of Portsmouth, VA. Mr. Burton was a US Marine veteran serving three tours in Vietnam. He attended Old Dominion University and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in engineering. Mr. Burton was a self employed general contractor and a member of Park Place Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of fifty years, Frances “Janet” Kauffman Burton of the home; sons, Jason Burton and wife Tracey of TX, and Andrew Burton and wife Kristen of SC; sister, Sharon Diane Bumgarner of SC; grandchildren, Emily Burton, Brandon Kennedy and Aaron Kennedy.
