Vestal Mccrary Hill

Vestal McCrary Hill, 86, of Sophia passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at his home when he went to be with his Lord and Savior following an extended illness.

Vestal was born September 12, 1933 in Randolph County, a son of the late John Riley Hill and Martha Farlow Hill. He was a lifelong resident of the Hillsville community and he graduated from Trinity High School. On March 25, 1951 Vestal married Doris Lee Hurlocker. They became the parents of two sons Robert and Randy.

He was a member of Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting for more than 70 years where he was faithful to attend each Sunday morning and he seldom missed a Wednesday night Bible Study.

He was also the owner of Hill Grading Company for many years and he retired from the City of Archdale where he was the Director of Public Works.

He is survived by his sons Robert Lee Hill of Annandale, Virginia, and Randall McCrary Hill of the home. He is also survived by granddaughter Caitlin Mortimer Hill of Bethesda, Maryland He was preceded in death by Doris Hill, his wife of 61 years. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, February 11 at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting, with Rev. Dave Mercadante and Rev. Brian Donley officiating. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
