Thomas “Tom” Edward Uber, 82, of Greensboro, passed away, Friday, July 1, 2022, at his home.
Born, July 17, 1939, in Greenville, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Joseph Bernard Uber and the late Evalyn Marie Sermak Uber. Tom proudly served in the United States Navy as a naval submarine officer and retired as a Lt. Commander with twenty years of faithful service. He graduated from the US Naval Academy with a bachelors in engineering, and from Villanova Academy with a masters in engineering. He was a faithful member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church in Greensboro and Grays Chapel United Methodist Church in Franklinville where he was the former men’s group leader and a former volunteer with the Randolph County Honor Guard. Tom was a foster dad and a mentor of men for Jesus Christ. Tom served on the board of Officers Christian Fellowship for twenty-four years. Tom founded and directed “His Thousand Hills” in Wellsboro, PA from 1981 until 2002, a ministry to disadvantaged children.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Anne Henney Uber of the home; sons, Peter Thomas Uber (Meredith) of Greensboro, Jonathan David Uber (Jacqueline) of Greensboro; brothers, Norman Uber (Nancy), Larry Uber (Wilma), Robert Uber (Beverly); sisters, JoAnn Fatica, Phyllis Price (Don); and grandchildren, Marschall Uber, Garrett Uber, Braxton Uber, Ashley Uber, and Scarlett Uber.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, David Lee Uber, and James Matthew Uber; and sister, Eleanor Messner.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church with Rev. John Johnsen officiating. Burial will follow at 3:45 PM at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Franklinville with military honors provided by the Randolph Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Randolph County Honor Guard, PO Box 1672, Asheboro, NC 27204.
