Thomas "Tom" Simpson

Thomas “Tom” Dunn Simpson, 71, passed away on July 29, 2026, at the Hospice Home in High Point. He was born June 27, 1955, to the late Margaret Nielsen Dunn Simpson and Edwin Simpson of High Point, NC. Tom lived his entire life in High Point, including all schooling; he graduated from T. Wingate Andrews High School in 1973 and from High Point College (now H.P. University) in 1977. Tom became a Certified Public Accountant, focused in the private sector, working for the Moravian Home in Winston-Salem, Hayworth Roll and Panel in High Point, Christ Covenant Church in Greensboro, and Family Services of Forsyth County in Winston-Salem. Tom met his best friend, David Roddick, his “brother from another mother,” in the mid-1980s when he and David worked as volunteer disc jockeys at WOKX, the first radio station in the area to play contemporary Christian music; they continued in this capacity until the station was sold and the music format was changed. On October 24, 1992, Tom married Jean Marie Robinette and they remained happily married until Tom’s death following a valiant battle against pancreatic cancer. Besides spending time with Jean, Tom enjoyed playing table tennis (a/k/a Ping-Pong) and watching college and professional football, college basketball (Go Heels!) and bowling events on television. He was a dyed-in-the-wool UNC-Chapel Hill fan, and also a fan of the Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins. He also loved the Star Wars series of movies as well as Star Trek (especially S.T.: Next Generation) and their series of movies.

For several decades, beginning in high school, Tom belonged to the Church at High Point, a home-based fellowship; following his marriage to Jean, he also attended Christ United Methodist Church (which merged with First UMC of High Point in 2021). Though he never formally enrolled as a member, he was active as a sound board operator at CUMC and as a Sunday school teacher at both CUMC and FUMC. On December 17, 2023, Tom officially joined Community Bible Church on Johnson Street in High Point, the first church in his life which he formally joined; he thoroughly enjoyed his time there, brief as it was.

Tom and Jean had no children. Tom was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles. He is survived by wife Jean; brother Edwin “Ed” Bernard Simpson of Cana, VA; nephew Daniel (Crystal Bermudez) Simpson and son Ollie; nephew David (Rachel) Simpson and children Libby and Collin; and niece Elizabeth Simpson. He is also survived by sister-in-law Kathy R. (Jim) Benson of Wilmington, NC and sons Jamey and Paul; and, brother-in-law Nelson (Annette) Robinette of Jacksonville, FL.

Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Community Bible Church.

The family will visit with friends following the service.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kalsoom Khan and the staff of the Hayworth Cancer Center as well as all the staff of High Point Regional (a/k/a Atrium Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center) for their kind and professional care to Tom during several admissions over these past ten months. We also want to thank all the staff at Hospice Home at High Point for their marvelous and on-point care of Tom in his last days; they always made sure he was comfortable and as much at peace as it was in their power to provide.
