Everette Stanley Sanders, 81, of Archdale, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Stan, as he preferred to be called, was born in Ironton, Missouri. He joined the United States Air Force in 1952 and with honor and pride he served his country for more than 22 years. During his career, he had many memorable assignments, including Newfoundland, England, Turkey and Thailand. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was most proud of the 12 years he was assigned to Andrews Air Force Base where he was on the elite team that provided maintenance to the presidential airplane, Air Force One. He served under presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford. After retiring from the Air Force, he was one of the first mechanics hired for the new Washington DC subway system, METRO. There he worked his way up to supervisor before relocating back to his birth state of Missouri where he settled in Kansas City.
Stan and his wife Sandy were frequent travelers, visiting Hawaii several times in between the many cruises they took. He eventually retired to the Lake of the Ozarks where he enjoyed boating and traveling in his motor home. In 2001 he relocated to Florida and lived in Lakeland for 15 years.
Stan is survived by his wife of 37 years Sandy, five children, Catherine, Caren and her husband David, Pamela and her husband Bill, Stanley (Skip) and his wife Kelly, and step daughter Linda and her husband David. He also left 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery.
