Samuel Alfred Laytham, 88, of Thomasville, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family and friends

Born November 16, 1937, in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Alfred Laytham and the late Marie Fischer Laytham. Sam served in the National Guard for twelve years and was in carbon paper sales. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Nancy Shaffer Laytham of the home; son, Alan Laytham and wife Lei-Ann of Thomasville; daughters, Lori Little and husband Morris of Thomasville, and Martha Turner of Lexington; brothers, Michael Laytham and wife Kathy of Ocala, Florida; sister, Patricia Claffey and husband Joe of Gastonia; grandchildren, Alex, Bethany, Allison, Callaway, and Niki; great-grandchildren, Nic, Hailey, Caleb, Lukas, Laylah, Emma, Austin, and Caraleigh; and his canine companion, Toby.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred “Skip” Laytham, Jr., and Bruce Laytham; sister, Margaret Stoto; and grandson, Max.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Morris Little officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Trinity Baptist Church.
