Samuel Wayne Bays, 63, of Greensboro, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point.

Born October 28, 1953, in Kingsport, TN, he was a son of the late Eulis Bays and the late Mona Akers Bays. Mr. Bays graduated from High Point Central High School, attended West Point Military Academy, and earned graduate and undergraduate degrees from UNC-G. He was an educator and coach for thirty-nine years with Guilford County Schools, teaching at STEM Early College, Ragsdale High School and Thomasville High School. In 2006, along with his best childhood friend, the late Ronnie Smith, he coached the Ragsdale High School track and field team to a state championship.

He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Susan Fulshaw Bays of the home; son, Joshua Bays of Greensboro; daughter, Anna Bays of Raleigh; brother, Mark Bays of Greensboro, and mother-in-law, June Fulshaw of MI.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Jamestown Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jay Smith and Pastor Newton Cowan officiating.

At Sam’s request, there will be an ice cream social following the service at the church.
