Juanita “Sam” Henderson

High Point

On April 19, 2018, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, mother-in-law and dear friend Juanita "Sam" Henderson made her grand entrance into Heaven. Sam was born in Anderson, SC on August 8th, 1925 to Alexander and Edith Love. Her family moved to High Point while she was very young and she graduated from High Point High School. While proud of her Anderson, SC roots, it was High Point where she made her home and raised her five children.

Sam was a classy lady who loved a good book, a fancy dinner, a strong drink out of a lavish glass and a good time was always had when she was around. The NC mountains were her favorite and many days in the spring she would drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a picnic lunch and a good laugh with her friends. She was forever optimistic and lived by the quote "To each his own, love is all you need." She treated everyone as a friend and had a soft spot for all of her grandchildren; she was their Mama Sam. Sam was involved in so much throughout High Point for much of her life. She was an avid singer and sang for many years with the Clyde Watson Orchestra. She was a board member for the YWCA of High Point, an active Guardian ad Litem in Guildford County, an associate director of the Miss Salisbury-Rowan pageants, active in community theater and High Point Community Theater's author of their newsletter. She was High Point’s citizen of the year from 1989-1990. She was the author for her own column “Town Talk" in the High Point Enterprise for many years but perhaps one of her proudest accomplishments behind being a grandmother was playing Eleanore in "The Lion in Winter". While those of us that love her dearly are sad to see her leave, we know she's moving on to her next adventure.

She is preceded in death by her mother Edith Love, father Alexander Love and her brother Wallace Love.

She's survived by her daughter, Kathryn "Kitty" Toth of High Point, NC; son, Francis "Skipp" McKenzie and wife Donna of High Point, NC, son, John Henderson and wife Regina of Wallburg, NC, son, David Henderson and wife Janie of Asheboro, NC, son, Stephen Henderson and wife Amy of Seagrove, NC; granddaughter, Kelli M Connolly and husband John of Watha, NC, granddaughter, Susan M Brutting and husband Brian of Saugerties, NY, granddaughter, Ashley H Moody and husband Bryan of Asheboro, NC, granddaughter, Caroline H Roberson and husband John of Apex, NC, granddaughter, Abby H Hale and husband Cody of Scotland Neck, NC, granddaughter, Rebecca H Mead and husband Philip of Asheboro, NC, granddaughter, Melynda H Brewer and husband David of High Point, NC; and grandson, Samuel Henderson of Wallburg, NC, and Jacob Neptune of Asheboro, NC. She adored all of her great-grandchildren, Alex, Montgomery, Devon, Tess, Leighton, Lainey, Monroe and Walker. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends she's made throughout the years.

The family would like to thank Pace of the Triad, her CNA of 4 years Melissa, and the Hospice House of the Piedmont for their wonderful and diligent care of Sam during her final years and days of life and also to everyone for all your kind words and condolences.
