Roy Gene Patterson

Roy Gene Patterson “Whitey”, 82, of High Point entered peacefully into eternity at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Born March 30, 1939, in Loudon, Tennessee, he was the son of the late George Ralph Patterson and the late Annabell Estes Patterson.  He was raised and spent his life in High Point, NC where he graduated from High Point High School as a member of the varsity basketball team.

Roy was a devoted husband, father, and hard-working employee in the soft drink beverage industry.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church in High Point.  He found joy in playing golf, spending time outdoors working in his “forever meticulous” yard, but what he loved most was his family.

During his short-lived battle with health-related issues, he showed his indelible courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile as he did throughout his life. He remained strong and inspirational to his loved ones until the end.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jane Crowell Patterson of the home; daughters, Tammie Murphy and husband Michael of Greensboro, Teresa Butler and husband Scott of High Point, and Trina Patterson of Greensboro; sisters, Betty Jo McGuire and husband Ronnie of High Point, and Jeanette Bracket and husband Bobby of Archdale; grandchildren, Ryan Murphy, Holland Butler, Houstin Butler, and Hansen Butler; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Carolyn Brown Patterson.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, October 4, 2021, in the chapel of Wright Funerals-Cremations with Rev. Debra Swing officiating. Inurnment will be in First United Methodist Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends following the service.
