Ronald was born in High Point, NC to Luther Broughton and Mary Emma Buck Gardner on 9/14/1945. He was married to Cathie Gardner. He worked as a Lumber Salesman for Gilbert Hardwoods for the majority of his life. He served in the United States Navy.

Ronald is preceded in death by his father Luther Broughton and mother Mary Emma Buck Gardner.

Ronald is survived by his wife Cathie Gardner, his son Scott Bentley, his daughters Cindy Schofield husband Bob from Trinity, NC, Shannon Moser husband Trey from Trinity NC, Misty Shaffer husband David from Thomasville, NC, his brother Bill Gardner wife Sandy from Thomasville, NC, his sister Paulette Lakin from Kernersville, NC, his grandchildren Cory wife Tabitha, Kendall, Will, Cameron, Rylee, Olivia, his great-grandchildren Ellis, Allie-Cate. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
