Mr. Roger Lee Gardner "Big Rog" passed away at home in High Point, NC
after a year of declining health. He was 79 yrs. old.
Roger is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Hill Gardner of the home;
two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Mark Bean of Thomasville
and Julia (Suzie) and Drew Harris of the home; grandchildren, Daniel
Gardner, Joshua Gardner, Patricia Harris, Elizabeth Hodge, Carly Hubbard, Harley Harris,
Andrew and Greg Purcell; five great-grandchildren and brother, Lewis
(Toots) and Doris Gardner.
He was preceded in death by parents, Julia Atwood Gardner (2000) and
Lewis C. Gardner (2001) of Winston Salem; daughter, Sharon (Katie
Gardner) Purcell (2010) of High Point; son and daughter-in-law,
Danny Lee Gardner (2016) and Sheila Atkins Gardner (2002) of High
Point; and great-grandson, Kayden Lewis Hodge (2011) of Winston Salem.
Big Rog was born in Winston Salem, NC to Lewis and Julia Gardner. Upon
graduation from Glenn High he joined the Army doing a tour in Korea.
He married the love of his life, Mary Anne Hill on June 14, 1958 at
First United Methodist Church High Point. He had a love of cars all
his life, working for Ross Huggins & NASCAR pit crews, formerly
owning AAA Auto Sales and Gold and Silver Pawn of High Point. After
becoming an auto wholesaler, loss of sight forced his retirement. He
dearly loved his family and saw to their needs all his life. Roger was
a big dog lover and a number one Yankees fan all his life.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday. June 10, 2017, at Holly Hill Wesleyan Church, 202 W. Holly Hill Rd. Thomasville, NC 27360.
