Robert David Entrekin

Listen to Obituary

Bobby was born in Greensboro to Charles Alfred and Nancy Smith Entrekin on September 2, 1953. He attended Central Elementary, General Greene Elementary, Kiser Junior High, and Grimsley Senior High graduating in 1971. He then attended the University of North Carolina with a major in Radio, Television, and Motion Pictures. While at Carolina he pledged to Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. His dream was to someday be in radio or TV as an announcer.

He loved baseball, running cross country and track, and ice hockey. He listened to baseball games at night when radio signals from far away were easier to tune in.  He listened to WGN, KMOX, and WTBS to hear the deliveries of those stations’ sport’s announcers dreaming one day to follow in their footsteps. One of his very favorite things to do was play Strat-O-Matic with neighborhood friends Jonathon Jacobs, Greg Ward and Joe Browder.

In his late fifties, having already been diagnosed with schizophrenia earlier in life, he entered a group home in Burlington with the assistance of Social Security disability. He seemed happy there and made friends with all the employees. Many of them stated that Bobby was their favorite resident and named him “Sexy Bob.”

Many of you who knew Bobby knew him to be a kind and friendly soul. We miss him and certainly know that he is sitting at the right hand of God.  “Blessed are those who expect nothing; for they shall not be disappointed. “

Bobby is survived by one brother, Charles Walter Entrekin and his significant other Deborah Fredericks of Jamestown.
