Robert Lee Elkes, Sr., 87, of High Point, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at his home.

Born January 12, 1931, in High Point, he was a son of the late Peter James Elkes and the late Lucy Jones Elkes. Mr. Elkes was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War and was the founder of Elkes Carpet, Inc. He and his wife were world travelers, having sailed many cruises and visited many European countries. He was a beloved father, and grandfather who was a pilot, scuba diver, general contractor, and motorcycle rider. Mr. Elkes was a constitutional conservative who was very active in the Randolph County Republican Party, and was a longtime member of Central Triad Church.

He is survived by his sons, Robert Elkes, Jr., and wife Janice of Thomasville, and Marty Elkes, Sr. and wife Teresa of Archdale; daughter, Leisa Elkes Rollins of High Point; brother, Toby Elkes and wife Faye of High Point; sister, Joann Dildine of Randleman; grandchildren, Heather, Marty, Jr., Alison, Joshua, Stephanie, Katie, Zachary, and Sarah; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Cheek Elkes, and seven siblings.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Central Triad Church with Rev. David Brown and Rev. Michael Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM prior to the service.
