Richard Isaac Quigley, Iii

Richard Isaac Quigley III, 69, of High Point, passed away peacefully Thursday September 23, 2021, at his home.

Born October 14th, 1951, in High Point, he was the son of Richard Isaac Quigley Jr. and Nancy White Quigley. In his youth, Richard was a daredevil who loved to ride anything that would go fast. He won the NC Soap Box Derby with a car he built himself at the age of 13. His love of cars eventually turned into a career as an auto mechanic. He flew gliders, piloted small aircraft, turned the family station wagon into a drag racer, and loved motorcycles.

He served in the US National Guard and the United States Army. He owned two different businesses and helped start several more, and was a volunteer EMT and firefighter. In midlife, Richard went back to school and became a paramedic.

Through his example he taught his sons to never be afraid to try something new. There wasn’t a thing in this world he couldn’t build or fix, and there wasn’t a material invented he hadn’t either welded, chopped, sawed, glued, bent, ratcheted or joined. He loved to invent things, including a go-kart he built from scratch, and a flame thrower he used to melt ice off the satellite dish. If Richard didn’t know how to do something, he would keep at it until he figured it out.

He was also one of the toughest people ever to have lived, and tried to spend as much time in his shop as he could, and had to be convinced one day not to lift himself off the shop floor with an engine hoist when he broke his hip.

Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Quigley, sister-in-law Jane Morgan, his two sons William Quigley and daughter-in-law Adrianne Quigley, Richard Quigley IV and daughter-in-law Rebecca Quigley, three grandchildren Jake Quigley (20), Annabelle “Scout” Quigley (15), and Will Quigley (7), his brother Wayne Quigley and sister-in-law Joan Quigley, nieces Joann and Marjorie, nephew Sidney, and two great-nephews Conner(5) and Marshall(1).
