On Monday, April 12, 2021, Paul Coryell Wittmann, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 73 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Born on November 04, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Hayden Oscar Wittmann and Nellie Lucille (Fite) Wittmann. When Paul was in grade school, The Wittmann family relocated to San Diego, California where Paul was raised alongside his older siblings Hayden and Barbara. All three children were raised and educated in Clairemont San Diego up to and including high school.
Paul met the love of his life, Roma Shumaker in high school. Paul and Roma spent their lifetimes together building a story of adventure and a loving family. They married soon after Romas graduation on August 31, 1968 at Clairemont Lutheran. In 1975 Paul and Roma moved internationally to Canada back to Roma’s family hometown of Vancouver. Just a few years later in 1981 Paul and Roma welcomed twin baby girls into the world, Danielle Cherise and Jennifer Coryell.
A few years later Pauls engineering experience brought their young family of four back to San Diego in 1984. Paul worked for General Dynamics and other respective engineering roles for years making more life long valued friends and colleagues along the way. Pauls career as an engineer in the Aerospace & Defense industry took them many places including Las Cruces, New Mexico for a few years and back to San Diego again. In 2017 they retired in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Paul was proud of his accomplishments as an engineer, enjoyed fishing, music, and researching family history. Genealogy was a passion of Paul’s, and he was able to spend much of his retirement researching the family tree, even John Adams made the list. He was a wonderful friend to many, loving father, and dedicated husband.
Paul Coryell Wittmann is survived by his daughter Danielle Cherise and son in law Andrew Zach Stapleton, as well as daughter Jennifer Coryell Wittmann. Paul is also survived by his siblings Alan Hayden Wittmann and sister Barbara Josephine Wittmann. Paul was proceeded in death by his wife Roma Elizabeth Wittmann in 2018, and two half siblings Frank Joseph Ewald and Gertrude Lucille Ewald.
A memorial service will take place at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston Salem, NC at a later date.
