Patricia (Pat) Ann Sargent McKowan, loving mother, devoted wife, dedicated grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on November 26, 2024. Pat was 85 years old.
Pat was born in Mansfield, Ohio to parents Leroy and Pauline Sutter Sargent, along with her brothers and sisters, Leroy, Linda, Richard, Becky, Eddie and Janie. Pat was the oldest girl in the family and took great pride in being the big sister and taking care of her siblings. They grew up in Mount Gilead, Ohio.
Pat worked as a secretary at various companies throughout her life. She retired from Guilford County Health Department in administration. Everywhere she worked, she gave her all and provided an amazing example to her daughters that they, in turn, have passed down to their children.
Pat met the love of her life, Jim while working at Westinghouse in Ohio. Along with their three daughters, Pat and Jim enjoyed traveling across the U.S., where they visited 49 states together. While in Arizona, Jim and Pat would take rides on Jim’s Honda Goldwing motorcycle, enjoying the beauty of Arizona. Pat and her husband, Jim, always considered their dogs part of the family, where they had imaginative names for the beloved family pets Champ, Champ II, Bennie, Bennie II and Bennie III.
Pat loved to play games with her family, utilizing this time around the table to catch up on life. She especially enjoyed the family card game of Pinochle, where she was the dedicated family scorekeeper. Pat also enjoyed spending time completing puzzles and creating diamond paintings, which she would frame and gift to her family and friends.
Upon retirement, Pat enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her yard and garden and serving her church. She dedicated much of her time to serving thousands of meals to others through food ministries. Her work embodied the spirit of service, love, and generosity; whether it was preparing and serving meals on Wednesday nights or vacation bible schools at church, fostering fellowship and connection over shared food; or volunteering for Meals on Wheels or Community Outreach of Archdale and Trinity (COAT).
Everyone who knew Pat, knew her greatest characteristics were her gentle, loving and kind spirit that she shared with everyone. She would never hesitate to help a family member, a friend or a stranger. She was a woman of remarkable character and strength, embodying unwavering resilience and grace. Her integrity, compassion, and determination served as a shining example to her family and friends, inspiring all who knew her to live with the same courage, kindness, and dedication that she demonstrated every day. This is her enduring legacy.
Pat is survived by three daughters, Dianna Nordman and her husband Karl, Kim Wandle, Mary Frazier and her husband Marty, seven grandchildren Scott Doss (Monica), Siobhan Ash (Cody), David Bohannon, Carrie Morales (Jonathan), Matthew Frazier and fiancé Sarah, Christina Chapman (Seth) and Kathleen Frazier, along with six great grandchildren Sidney, Hunter, Samantha, Gavin, Finley and Theodore, and her sister Becky. Pat was loved by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, five of her siblings and her husband, Jim McKowan.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, PO Box 9, Trinity, NC 27360, where Pat was a dedicated and long-term member. Memorial contributions may also be made to any food ministry or food pantry to honor her love of meeting the needs of people through service.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Pastor Morris Little of Trinity Baptist Church and to Hospice of the Piedmont for their compassionate care.
The family will hold a private funeral service this week, with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Burial will be at the National Veteran’s Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Jim who served in the United States Navy.
Wright Funerals-Cremations, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.
