Norbert J. Fredette

Norbert J. Fredette,  98, of High Point, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Westchester Harbour in High Point, NC.

He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Anita T. Fredette, his parents, Ernest L. Fredette and Aurelie B. (LeBlanc) Fredette, his siblings, Emile, Armand, Leo, Hervey, Rita, Pauline, Theresa, and Lucille, his son-in-law, Wayne Erwin, as well as several nieces and nephews, and his infant twin boys, Anthony Peter and Anthony Paul.

“Nobby,” as many called him, is survived by his beloved children; David Fredette and his wife Sheryl (New Bedford, MA), John Fredette and his wife Donna (Cornish, ME), Ray Fredette and his wife, Debbie (Lexington, NC), Bernie Fredette and his wife Jan Means (Melrose, NY), Rose Erwin (Sanford, ME), Gerry Fredette and his wife, Patty (Pleasant Garden, NC), Mary Brindley and her husband Jim (Thomasville, NC), Alice Smith and her husband Gary (Hanover, MA), and Ann Everett and her husband Mark (Mocksville, NC). “Pepere,” was a wonderful grandfather to 23 and great-grandfather to 22. He also loved his many extended family members and his church family from Immaculate Heart of Mary in High Point, and Sts. Martha & Mary in Lakeville, MA.

Born on February 19, 1927, he spent much of his life in New Bedford, Whitman, and Lakeville, MA, as well as Saco, ME, before he and Anita moved to High Point, NC. A family man of strong faith, prayer, and hard work, Norbert trusted in God’s great love and grace throughout his life. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, one of the first to graduate from UMass Amherst’s Civil Engineering Program, and maintained a successful career as a Professional Engineer, working many years in Whitman, MA, as the Public Works Superintendent, Town Engineer, and Town Surveyor. His proudest accomplishment by far, however, was the beautiful family he and Anita raised. They were both known for their helpfulness and generosity, with Nobby often volunteering as Clerk of the Works on various projects.

In addition to being a great husband and father, he was a skilled woodworker and made many beautiful gifts throughout his life, from tables and step stools, to hope chests and jewelry boxes. Visiting with him often included a crossword puzzle, a York peppermint patty, and a detailed discussion of the latest project you were working on. Staying in touch with family and friends meant the world to him, especially in his later years. He loved singing French songs, wrote his own ‘Memoirs,’ believed in dessert at every meal, and his classic movie collection was envied by all! Nobby always gave God the credit for His faithfulness in all his endeavors. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family, and his many, many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in High Point, with Father Tom Norris, O.S.F.S. officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 11:15 AM prior to the service at the church
