High Point, NC – Monnie Jo Martin, 59, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8th, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend who had a gentle, loving heart and was devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in whom loving arms she now rests.
Monnie was born October 29th, 1965, in Laurens, SC and was the daughter of Otis and Marjorie Hill. She was the devoted wife of Barry Martin and together they raised 3 children: Brittany, Bradley, Anna, and adored their beautiful granddaughter, Izabella Martin. Monnie was preceded in death by her father, Otis, and is survived by her beloved husband, children, Mother, Marjorie Hill, and her siblings, Judy Trotter, Mary Wynn Hill, and Davis Hill.
Monnie’s joy and purpose in life was her passion for Christ, which guided her thoughts, dreams, actions, and affections. Her husband, Barry, whom she adored, was the great love of her earthly life and together they poured their lives into raising their three children. Monnie was a beautiful woman, inside and out, but she would say all of that emanated from her heart for Christ. She was a very private person who was loyal, deeply caring, and fiercely protective of those she loved.
Her favorite place that held her most precious memories was Kiawah Island where she found great peace and joy with her family amidst God’s amazing natural beauty. She loved spending time with her granddaughter, Izabella, working in her yard, and exploring estate sales. She was a proud and grateful graduate of Meredith College where she learned to love learning and made lifelong friends. Monnie also loved and embraced the fellowship of her bible study girlfriends who stood by her throughout her illness. They all admired her deep faith, her gentle spirit, and her loyal friendship.
For Monnie, to live was Christ, and to die was gain. She would want those she loved to understand that she is not dead, in fact she is even more alive now than she has ever been. In her final days she embraced the promise of her Savior, “I am the resurrection and the life, anyone who believes in Me will never die.” Her most fervent prayer is that those she loved, her family and friends, will know and embrace Jesus so they too will be able spend eternity together.
A private memorial service to celebrate the life of Monnie Martin will be held this Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at the family home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monnie’s Legacy of Mentorship with Big Brothers and Sisters via bbbsp.networkforgood.com.
