Mary was predeceased by her husband, William David Dawkins.  They had been married for 71 years at the time of his death on March 7, 2019.  She was also predeceased by a son, David Alan Dawkins who died on August 7, 1988; and by two sisters, Maggie Mock Stanley and Bonnie Mock Edwards.

She is survived by three children, Patricia Lynn Tadlock (Tom), Melanie Kay Carter (Randy) and Jeffrey Scott Dawkins (Chuck Conklin).  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Bradley Thomas Tadlock (Kimberly), Emily Louise Tadlock (Phillip Yates), Mary Lynn Trogdon (Joe Drinkwater) and Kristin Collette Stevenson; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mary Tadlock, William Thomas Tadlock and Jonah Wilder. Mary was a stay-at-home mother and bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Harrison and Dawkins Homebuilders.  She enjoyed babysitting and playing with her grandchildren, decorating her home and working in her garden.  Mary and Bill enjoyed both ballroom and square dancing.  They made many friends and enjoyed traveling with them.  Her favorite times were those spent with family.

Mary was homebound for the last several years of her life and was content to sit on her sunporch while reading, working crossword puzzles, feeding and watching birds and other wildlife.  She especially enjoyed visits from family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Philip Asenso for providing in home medical care during her final years, Griswold Home Care and Hospice of the Piedmont for their help in making Mary’s final years more peaceful.  They would also like to thank two special caregivers, Susan Gellerson and Mary Asenso.
