Mrs. Mary Gwendolyn Jones Gibson, 88, passed away at Hospice Home at High Point on March 7, 2018.

Mary was born on July 6, 1929, in Jamestown, NC, a daughter of Elsie Robinson and Harrison Settle Jones.  Mary graduated from High Point High School in 1947 and was employed for ten years as an executive secretary to the president of Pilot Life Insurance Company.

On September 4, 1948, she married John Byron Gibson, Jr. who preceded her in death on March 6, 2013.  They were married at Ward Street Methodist Church where she was a member for thirty-five years and a soprano in the choir.

Since 1974, she has been a devoted member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and was a longtime member of the Chancel Choir.

Mary’s passion was her music and her family. She played her piano and organ almost daily. Mary and JB enjoyed spending much of their time at Holden Beach. Mary and JB were wonderful, loving parents and grandparents.

Surviving are two sons, Chris Gibson of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Clark Gibson and wife Laura; grandchildren, Gwyn Gibson, Bradley Gibson and wife Edi; great grandchildren, Porter and Parker; nieces, Cindy Hardy Sellers and husband Donald, Linda Kinley Adams; and nephew, Reverend Charles Robinson Adams.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Harrison Thurman Jones; sisters, Jewell Jones Adams, Dorothy Jones Hardy James; and nephew, Thomas Harrison Adams.

The family would like to thank Vicki Merrill and Linda Adams for their love, friendship and support, as well as the incredible doctors, nurses and staff at High Point Regional Hospital and Hospice of the Piedmont.  Thanks to Dr. Richard Orr and Dr. Keith Miller for their wonderful care and friendship.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 9, 2018, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Asbury Room of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

The family funeral service and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Music Ministry of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Piedmont or a charity of choice.
