Mrs. Marjorie Marie Johnson Landis, formally from Adelphi, MD, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018 at her home in High Point, NC.

Margie was born in Tipton, PA, May 4, 1924. She was the first born of twins 7 months prematurely. Margie and her sister were born without hair, eyebrows, fingernails or toenails and according to her mother looked like “drowned rats”. Both Margie and her sister suffered no mental or physical effects from their traumatic entrance into the world and lived long fruitful lives.

She grew up in Tyrone, PA and graduated from Tyrone High School. After graduation she and her sister Marguerite moved to the Washington, DC area. Margie worked for the Veteran’s Administration. During this time she met her future husband, Theodore (Ted) Landis. They were married May 18, 1946. After marriage, they lived in the Washington, DC area for the majority of their lives. In 2007, they relocated to High Point, NC.

Margie and Ted were charter members of Ager Road Methodist Church, Hyattsville, MD.  Margie was also an active member of the Eastern Star Naomi Chapter #3. She worked for Prince George’s County School System as a secretary in the Langley Park area for 20 years and retired in 1989.  Prior to retiring Margie was awarded Secretary of the Year for Prince George’s County. In the letter of recommendations for this award, the principal stated that Langley Park Elementary children spoke thirty-eight languages in this school and “Mrs. Landis never turned anyone away when they came to enroll their child.”

Margie was a fierce bridge player. She played in a monthly bridge club with neighborhood women. And, an additional hobby was helping Ted design and built 16 houses in the DC area.

Margie is survived by her son, Theodore (Ted) and Sally Landis; her grandchildren, T.J. Landis (Bridget), Leigh Ellen Dauchert (Stephen); her great granddaughters, Ophelia Landis, Pharis Landis, Sibyl Dauchert; her sister-in-law, Violet Johnson, her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her twin sister, Marguerite Johnson Vick, brothers, Edward and Melvin Johnson, and husband of 73 years, Theodore (Ted) Franklin Landis.
