Mack Dean Harris, 88, of High Point, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Westchester Harbor.
Mack was born in Elkin, NC on September 23, 1931, the son of the late Della Scott Harris and the late Thurmond Harris. He was raised in Jonesville, and very active in sports during his high school years. In 1952, Mack joined the US Air Force and was deployed to Korea completing a four-year period achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. While stationed in Florida, he met his wife of sixty-three years (Mary) and move to High Point in 1958. Mack was active in the community, and a member of Green Street Baptist Church. He was blessed with good parents, and paid it forward in helping those less fortunate, lending a hand to a neighbor, and witnessing to prisoners through the Gideon Association.
Mack worked in Operation Management of Information Services for Adams Millis, and later with AIM Tools. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, boating, and anything related to being outside. He was an enthusiastic UNC and NASCAR fan. Mack was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren, always supportive in their endeavors.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Harris; children, Gary Harris (Karen), Lisa Harris, and Scott Harris (Dana); grandchildren, Blake Harris, Jonathan Harris, Parker Harris and Luke Harris; sisters, Daphnia Martin, and Wanda Pederson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Janice Collins (Sister) preceded his death.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Green Street Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Rynerson officiating. Burial will be private in Floral Garden Park.
The family will receive friends following the service.
The family would like to thank the staff of Westchester Harbor Assisted Living and Hospice of the Piedmont.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in support of Green Street Baptist Church, Hospice of the Piedmont or a charity of one’s choice.
