Lottie Frances Pope Woodlief transitioned Thursday, February 4, 2021 with gentle, loving care by Hospice of Randolph after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Previous compassionate care was provided by Community Home Care and Hospice of Asheboro. Lottie was born June 4, 1938, in Thomasville, NC, to the late Bertha (Grubb) Pope and the late Kiser L. Pope. Also, Lottie was preceded in death by her infant brother, Dennis. She attended Davis-Townsend school and enjoyed French class. She reluctantly took piano lessons until a tree climbing adventure resulted in two broken arms. What a way to get out of music lessons! Later, Lottie proudly completed her GED at Davidson County Community College. On December 19, 1954, she married (and later divorced) Billy Ray Woodlief. They had one child, Donna Clark of Tallahassee, FL. Lottie worked hard as an upholstery seamstress her entire career. While she didn’t have a great deal, she always shared with others in need. Lottie loved being stylishly dressed -- her hair, makeup, nails and lipstick always perfect. How she loved her lipstick! She took great delight in telling the silliest corny jokes with a quick wink and laugh, although her life was difficult at times. Lottie was a loyal, caring and kind friend to many but especially to her dear friend since childhood, Sue Langford (deceased), who was like her sister, and to a very special cousin, Carol Owens, with whom many banana splits and ice cream sundaes were shared. All animals, big and small, domestic and wild, held a tender place in her heart. She loved and cared for many fur babies throughout her life, which brought her great joy. Best friend to her daughter, Lottie and Donna enjoyed many shopping trips, restaurants, excursions to beaches and mountains with regular phone calls in between while never failing to say “I love you and talk to you later.” They shared a special bond of each being an only child and were always very close.
Lottie is survived by her daughter, Donna, by several cousins and their children, and by many friends.
No services are planned. Should you wish to do so, memorials may be made to your local animal rescue or shelter, favorite charity, any local Alzheimer’s group, or Hospice of Randolph, 446 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203. Lottie would smile knowing others, both two-legged and four-legged, may be helped or comforted. “I’m heartbroken I can no longer hug you tight, but when I look at the stars twinkling above, I will think it is you shining down with love. I love you, Mommy, and I’ll talk to you later.”
