Lisa LaFrell Lane, 53, of Greensboro, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Born August 24, 1964, in Sumter, SC, she was a daughter of the late James I. and Lillie Mae Tindal Lane. Ms. Lane graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Special Education from Columbia College. She received her Masters of Education in Elementary Education from South Carolina State University.
Her teaching career began in South Carolina at Manchester Elementary School in Pinewood, South Carolina. Over a span of thirty years, she taught at Oaklawn Elementary in Charlotte, NC, Paul Robeson Academy, Frank Murphy Elementary, and Emerson Elementary, all of Detroit, MI. After teaching in Michigan for more than twenty years, she returned to North Carolina in 2016 as an educator at Rankin Elementary in Greensboro, N.C.
She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at Loring Mill Road, Sumter, SC where she was very active. She also served as pianist for several years. She performed with various choirs within the church. She was also a member of The Meditations of Zion Gospel Group. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
In addition to her parents, Lisa was preceded in death by one brother, Stewart Ricardo. Left to cherish her memories are her three children, Jessica Elizabeth Simon and Danielle Lillian Dotson of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Joshua Israel Simon of Orangeburg, South Carolina; her siblings: Gloria J. Lane, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Rev. James C. (Shirley) Lane, Sumter, South Carolina; Dr. Juanita Lane, Madison Height, Michigan, and a special sister, Wendy (Anthony) Fulton, Kingstree, South Carolina; one grand aunt, Adell Dicks, Columbia, South Carolina; three aunts: Maggie Lane and Virginia (Marion) Champion, both of Sumter, South Carolina and Jean Tindal of Brooklyn, New York; one uncle, Elder William Mickens of Sumter, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Hattie T. Ervin of Columbia, South Carolina; lifelong friend Marvis Aiken (Darwin) Wright of Union, New Jersey, and a special cousin, Marie Brooks, of Sumter, South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held Saturday, April 14, 11:00 a.m at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall Street, Sumter, SC with Rev. Larry Weston, Host Pastor; Rev. Gwendolyn T. White, Pastor; and Rev. James C. Lane, Eulogist.
The family is receiving friends at 1700 London Road, Sumter, SC 29153.
