Larry Craig Stroud, 75, of Thomasville, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026, at his home.

Born July 28, 1950, in High Point, he was a son of the late Gurney Lee “GL” Stroud, Jr., and the late Alice Nadine Sizemore Stroud.

He married Robin Varner Stroud on March 24, 2000, and they enjoyed 26 years of marriage. Larry and Robin were able to enjoy many trips including England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, and France, where he fulfilled his dream of visiting Omaha Beach.

Larry retired from the High Point Police Department as a Lieutenant after 40 years of service to the citizens of High Point. He was a well-known instructor for local law enforcement, teaching officers skills to keep them safe and grow professionally. He worked in many capacities at High Point PD including housing, firearms instructor, SWAT team, media liaison, working undercover and a host of other areas.

He served in the United States Army , stationed in Germany and working in intelligence. Larry loved his grandchildren Olivia and Case who affectionally called him "Bobby" or Boompa". He loved watching dinosaur movies with Case and trying to teach Olivia how to play chess, he did help her to master checkers.

Left to cherish his memory; his wife Robin Varner Stroud; brother, Sparky Stroud and wife Michelle of High Point; sister, Dawn Bryant and husband Steve of Raleigh; daughter, Brittany Jones and husband Christopher of Thomasville; grandchildren, Olivia Jones and Case Jones; nephew Travis Stroud (Stefanie) of Wallburg; nieces, Katie Bryant (Brian Hall) of Raleigh and Kelly Smith (Jon) of Raleigh; great nephew Jake Stroud; great nieces, Logan Stroud, Cameron Smith and Hayden Smith; close friends, Rick and Linda Allred and James and Terri Murphey; and a host of extended family.

Celebration of Life service will be 11:00AM Friday, May 1, 2026, in the Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point chapel with Marc Cutrell officiating. High Point Police Honor Guard will give honors to his memory.

The family will receive friends following the service.
