Larry Gene Portis

Larry Gene Portis, 78, of Thomasville, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the TerraBella Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Asheboro.

Born June 7, 1947, in High Point, he was a son of the late Lawrence Allen Portis, and the late Lena Matthews Portis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy Portis, Steve Portis, Sr., and Allen Portis.

Larry married the former Janie Rose Terrell on October 28, 1965, in High Point and together they shared 60 years of matrimony. He served in the US Army from 1966-1968 in the 3rd Armored Division in Germany and was Honorably discharged with the rank of Sgt E-5.

He retired from Flex-O-Lators which later became Leggett and Platt after 47 years of service. Larry and his wife were faithful members of Ward Ave. Church of God of Prophecy in High Point.

Left to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Janie T. Portis of the home; sons, Kevin Portis of Pinetops; Jeffrey Portis and wife Kim of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Kinsley Portis and Hudson Portis; and sisters, Dianne Wilson and husband Lee and Linda Cunningham.

Funeral Service will be 11:00AM Thursday, May 28, 2026, in the sanctuary of Ward Avenue Church of God of Prophecy; 211 N. Ward Ave., High Point; with Bishop Dr. Ben Duncan and Bishop David Hutch officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Floral Garden Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends 10:00-10:45AM prior to the service at the church.
