Lawrence “Larry” Edward Dorsett, Jr., 78, of High Point, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026, at Westchester Manor Nursing Center. Born on March 3, 1948, in High Point, he was the firstborn son of the late Lawrence Edward Dorsett, Sr., and the late Evelyn Virginia Motsinger Dorsett.
Larry graduated from High Point Central High School in 1966. Afterwards, he attended Western Carolina University and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was employed by Sears & Roebuck as a buyer for the Southeastern United States for 20 years, first in Greensboro, NC, and later transferring to Atlanta, GA. After moving back to North Carolina in 1998, he worked with various companies in IT and retired from Piedmont Office Supply in 2013.
Larry had a contagious love for music, especially the Beach Boys. He found great joy singing along and never missed an opportunity to dance. He was known as an avid jokester with an endless supply of one-liners, a dedicated father, grandfather, and brother, and a devoted North Carolina Tar Heel fan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Molly Slate and husband Brian, of Wallburg; Emily Dorsett of Thomasville; and Jenny Dorsett and fiancé Brennen Duncan of Thomasville; grandchildren, Ethan Reed and McRae Slate; brother, David Dorsett and wife Anne; sister, Jane Dorsett; ex-wife and friend, Sheila Kearns Dorsett.
The family will receive friends from 1:00–2:30 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point chapel.
A private graveside service will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.
