Larry “Benny” Benfield, 76 of High Point, NC left his earthly body on July 3rd, 2026, at High Point Medical Center.

He was born in Avery County, NC, August 17, 1949. son to Edna and James Calloway. He later graduated high school from Avery County High.

Shortly after graduating high school, Benny met the love of his life, Carolyn, where they relocated to Texas while he served in the US Army.

Later, they settled in the Piedmont where he attended GTCC to obtain his Fire Science degree. Benny served as a fireman with the High Point Fire Department. He worked his way through the ranks on to retiring as a commander in 1997. His brotherhood bond remained with countless firemen including his very best friend; Ron Jordan of Wilmington, NC.

He leaves behind his wife; Carolyn, their daughter Shannon Owor, his son in law; Bernard Owor, his mother in law; Jewel Walker, two brothers in law; Keith Stevens and Rich Walker. He is also survived by his sister, Reba Horney, and brother James Calloway Jr.

Preceded in death by his sister; Susie McConnell, brother; Randall Calloway and parents.

In Benny’s youthful years you could always find him on a tennis court or at social gatherings surrounded by friends as he shared quirky jokes or obscure trivia facts. Benny was most known for his kind heart, laughter and soft spot for animals. He use to say; “If you’re not walking on the edge you’re taking up too much space.” That sums him up and how we will remember our Gentle Ben.
