Kathleen Johnson Penland, passed away September 29, 2018.

She was born in 1925 on Green Mountain, NC, and attended Warren Wilson College and Mars Hill College.  Kathleen raised her three children in Burnsville, NC.  She lived for over fifty years in Greensboro, and worked twenty-eight of those years for Blue Bell/Wrangler.  Kathleen was witty, curious about everything, and played piano every day.  She quoted from the Bible at will, read widely, loved people, and made friends wherever she was.  Her “joie de vivre” was infectious.  She was beautiful – inside and out and her family and friends deeply mourn her loss.

Kathleen is survived by her daughters, Amelia (Mina) Penland Fuller, and Ramona (Noni) Penland, and a son-in-law, Craig Fuller.  Kathleen’s beloved granddaughter is Catharine Robertson.  She lost her son, John Darwin (Dodi) Penland, Catharine’s father, in 1979.

Her brothers and sisters are James Johnson, who died in April of this year, Lallage Neill, Wanda Hansil, and Tom Johnson. Her nieces and nephews will miss “Aunt Kat”.

She donated her body to the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 10, 2018,  at Sedgefield Presbyterian Church, Greensboro, NC.
