Kathie Robin Smith, 67, passed away on December 27, 2023, at her home. She was born on January 15, 1956, in Thomasville, NC and was a graduate of Ragsdale Senior High School in Jamestown, NC.
Kathie was preceded in death by her son, William Lee Hackaday, II; her daughters Kathie Lee Shelton and Jennifer Nicole Smith and her step-father Maurice Roy Mabe.
Kathie is survived by her daughters Jodi Shelton of Mesa, AZ and Mae Polston of Cavecreek, AZ; her mother, Zora “Sue” Mabe of High Point, NC; her sisters Dawn Mabe of High Point, NC and Cynthia Mabe Essalim and husband El Bachir of Thomasville, NC; her brother Marlan Mabe and wife Karen of High Point, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren, John Damien Bracey, Marissa Badillo, Christopher Entsminger, Ryan Golino, Wyatt Burkey and great-granddaughter Luna Noelle Entsminger as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Kathie is also survived by an honorary daughter Dena Powers and partner Jason Varner and honorary grandchildren Eadon Powers, Teagan Smith and Simon Varner all of Greensboro, NC.
Kathie had a soft heart for animals and people alike. She took in strays or animals that people couldn’t care for anymore and loved them with all her heart. In addition, she always had a smile on her face despite the many hardships she had to endure while raising four girls. She was well liked in her neighborhood and always made the kids laugh.
A memorial service to celebrate the life will be conducted at 6:00 PM Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in the High Point chapel of Wright Funerals-Cremations with Rev. C.W. Moss officiating.
The family will visit with friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the United Cerebral Palsy organization.
