Kate Huskins Post

Listen to Obituary

Alma “Kate” Post, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27th in High Point, NC. Kate was born December 9th, 1935, in Yancey County, NC to the late Samuel Mack and Mae Ballew Huskins. She was raised in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains with her siblings Thurman and Sue and close cousins.

She attended Warren Wilson College before moving to Greensboro to work as a Court House secretary, where she met the love of her life Edward “Ed” Neal Post. The two were married in 1957 and welcomed their beloved child Alan the next year. They settled in High Point, NC and traveled extensively as a family–globetrotting through Mexico, Canada, and Europe. She was a vibrant member of the community, spending time volunteering, especially at First Presbyterian Church where she served in the Women’s Group. She had a brilliant eye for flower arrangements and graciously made them for the church for over 20 years.

She remained ever curious about the world and as a lifelong learner, after completing an undergraduate degree from UNC-G in 1987, she audited classes until 2019 with particular interest in history, philosophy, and literature. While High Point was her home, she spent as much time in the North Carolina mountains as possible. There was little more she enjoyed than a walk-through gardens, a well-written biography, a simple cup of coffee, and a view of the mountains.

Kate was full of faith, spirit, and love for her family and nature. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, Grandma, sister, cousin, and a generous friend. Her memory lives on through her granddaughter: Hailey Post (Keisei), daughter-in-law Terri Moore, sister Sue Thrower, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents, Mack and Mae, husband Ed Post, son Alan Post, and brother Thurman Huskins.

As a proud Spartan and lifelong lover of botany and plant conservation, we ask you to honor Kate’s memory by donating to UNC-G’s Plant and Pollinator Center.

The family wishes to thank the nurses at Pennybyrn and AuthoraCare Hospice for their support and care.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5th at First Presbyterian Church, 918 N Main St, High Point, NC 27262.
