Joyce Haines Siler, 95, passed away peacefully at River Landing in Colfax, NC on September 28, 2023.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 10, 1927, to Naomi Voneiff and Wilson Lippincott Haines, Joyce had two older siblings, Wilson “Buddy” Haines and Dorothy Jane Haines. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1945 and attended college at Bard Avon. Her first job was modeling at Hutzler’s Department store.
Joyce married John Dubel in 1946. They started Seaboard Coffee Service together in Rocky Mount, NC in 1954, where Joyce worked as a secretary. During their marriage, they were blessed with five children. Joyce later remarried Bob Siler, and following his death, she moved from Rocky Mount to River Landing to be closer to her family. She always said that her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy in life.
To know Joyce was to experience the meaning of love. She had an optimistic, positive attitude, and her warm smile brought joy to everyone she came in contact with. She made those closest to her feel happy and loved. Joyce never met a stranger and prided herself on remembering everyone’s name. She was an avid bridge player. She also loved tennis, golf, and swimming; even winning the Senior Olympics for the freestyle stroke in her eighties. Joyce enjoyed traveling, and studying family genealogy. She was an ardent reader, and loved the lifelong pursuit of knowledge, even taking extensive classes at the local community college later in life.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husbands, John Dubel, Sr. and Robert Siler; her daughter, Mary Lou Dubel; her son, Jeff Dubel; her stepson, Bobby Siler, and her grandson, Joseph Dubel. She is survived by her children, Jack Dubel (Kathi), Carol Womble (Jim), and Ridgely Hutchin (Mark); stepchildren, Diane Siler, Janet Siler, and Lee Siler; her grandchildren, Todd Womble, Gregg Womble (Jessica), Brent Womble (Ashley), Ashley Jones (Zack), Jessica Dubel, Julianne Dubel, and Emma Dubel (Zeke) and five great-grandchildren.
