Jon Christopher Jensen

April 9th, 1971 - December 26th, 2022

What can you say to sum up the life of Jon Jensen? The best thing to say is simply that Jon’s was a life well lived and loved.

Jon had a list of academic and professional achievements and accomplishments, as well as a list of memberships in professional and personal organizations, but those don’t truly express who he was. Perhaps it is better to simply recall the things he valued, loved, and did most.

Jon was a man who enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking, and going on adventures. He loved animals of all kinds, but especially dogs. The enjoyment Jon got from traveling, going new places, and trying new things was always something that brought a smile to his face and new stories to share. His love of photography lead to frequent “shooting” trips, especially to state and national parks and wildlife areas.

Jon’s love for working on vehicles, especially Jeeps (he owned four of his own and often helped friends with theirs), regularly led to weekends full of greasy hands, dirt smeared clothes, the smell of gear oil, busted knuckles, and colorful language choices. Somehow he always managed to hunt down an amazing deal on whatever part - no matter how rare - was needed. He was a true believer in “a little bit of lift, and a little bit of tire”.

Sharing food and drinks with friends and family was a great joy to Jon. He was a master on the grill, the man happy to carve the turkey on Thanksgiving, and someone who never needed a recipe. “You just season until it’s right, Holly,” he would always say. It was the spending time and socializing with friends and family over food and libations, though, that Jon really enjoyed. The food was just a good excuse to get together and enjoy each other’s company, whether at home, a restaurant, or Super China King Buffet.

Jon was a man with a wicked and sharp sense of humor and a quietly generous spirit who loved those around him deeply. He was always happy to help neighbors, friends, and family with any and everything from yard work, technology and computer issues, building projects, vehicle repairs, and many other things, and he was an excellent and patient teacher when helping others learn.

The world is truly a lesser place for having lost Jon’s light, but it is a better place for having had him.
