John Wesley Joyner, Sr.
High Point
John Wesley Joyner, Sr., 77, of High Point, passed away Friday, November 30, 2018, at Hospice Home at High Point.
John Wesley Joyner, Sr. also known as Brother Joyner, John, Uncle John, Johnny; will be sorely missed by all who met him. His presence in the neighborhood and in the community and in the lives of those who loved him was HUGE.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Joyner, his sons, John Wesley Joyner Jr. (Charlene Joyner), Michael Anthony Joyner (Michele Denise Joyner), and daughter, J. Elizabeth Joyner, brothers S. Gordon Joyner, James Lee Joyner (Mildred Joyner), Charles Joyner (Barbara Joyner), sister Shirley Sumpter (Walter Sumpter), and grandchildren. John Joyner is preceded in death by Wilson Joiner and Thelma Joiner, his father and mother.
John was my husband of 53 years. I did not think he would make 50 but he surprised me with 3 extra years. We had 3 children and did the best we could in the ups & downs of years. We stuck it out and made it work! John joined me in worshiping Jehovah in 2003. I thought that was the best thing ever, yet later in 2007, he started serving as a ministerial servant. He loved cart witnessing, hospitality, gardening, and fixing things (whether they needed to be fixed or not) He also loved driving his scooter in the ministry, preaching and teaching and helping others to learn about Jehovah, being active with his responsibilities in the congregation and being with the friends.
Within our community, John made steadfast friends with our neighbors. He would take his scooter up to the mailbox and strike up conversations from grocery coupons to plants and gardening or the seasonal sport. He was generous with his garden produce, his flower beds his time and his thoughts. He gave his precious gift of friendship to anyone who needed a helping hand.
I was privileged to be daddy’s little girl, spending most of my life living side-by-side with him, caring for him in the last years, months, days, even in his final hours of life. I was devoted most of my life to God and the well being of my father. Even though we didn’t have the same opinion on most things; he was the best father. My Daddy made friends easily & quickly, from bribes of food to words of couponing wisdom with doses of Bible verses. He lived with many medical issues that did not make him handicapped but Handy & Capable. Dad taught me mistakes & challenges are just a license to become more creative. I am relieved that my Daddy is out of pain & in Jehovah's memory.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Centennial St., High Point.
