John Anthony Bright

John Anthony Bright, 74, of Kernersville, NC, passed away on February 20th, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.

Anthony was born on December 2, 1948, to John and Irene Bright in Baton Rouge, LA. They moved to Norway, SC, where he graduated from Norway High School in 1967.  Afterwards, he served in the Army and upon return, he graduated from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.  In 1975, Anthony married Susan Hampton Bright (d. 2007) in Orangeburg, SC. Anthony and Susan went on to have two children, Karen Mattingly and Darrel Bright. In 2012, Anthony married Carol Smith Bright, and they resided in Kernersville, NC. He worked as an engineer until he retired.  Anthony spent his time woodworking, practicing photography, and looking for sharks’ teeth on the beach.

Anthony was preceded in death by his mother, father, and first wife Susan. He is survived by his current wife Carole Smith Bright, brother Alan Bright (Marie), daughter Karen Mattingly (Chris), granddaughter Allyson Mattingly, grandson Joey Mattingly, son Darrel Bright (Karen), granddaughter Rachel Bright and many other family and friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or the Jimmy V Foundation.
